Compaction

Compax Inc. has an automated pressing range of  2 – 250 tons

The powder is gravity-fed into the die and is usually compacted at room temperature. The most common compacting pressures are in the 30 – 50 tons per square inch range. Conventional P/M presses operate with a vertical stroke. Most P/M components are pressed in a single cavity die.

Parts are pressed at quick cycle times. Pressing 8-20 parts per minute is common. Larger parts take longer to compact than smaller parts.
